Haze lore and story
An editorial guide to Haze's background, motive for entering the Ritual, and possible wish from a Patron.
Who is Haze?
The Occult Security and Investigation Commission is a black box government organization that makes the CIA look transparent. It falls on the men, women, and entities of the OSIC to keep the country safe from sinister forces that are beyond the capabilities of local law enforcement. As a member of the notorious Sandman Division, Haze is routinely tasked with infiltrating the dreams of persons of interest, to assess their threat level, and if needed... to put them to sleep.
Haze enters a Ritual in which six heroes aid a Patron against its rival. Victory matters beyond the match: the successful Patron can offer each ally a wish, turning every combatant's private motive into part of the city's larger occult crisis.
What would Haze wish for?
To complete the work expected of her and bring a dangerous occult objective under control.
Strongly implied. Deadlock remains in development, so Lock Lab separates explicit canon from dialogue-based implication and editorial interpretation.Lock Lab reading
Haze's story connects a personal problem to the larger struggle over the Amber Hand and Sapphire Flame. When Haze fixates on a target she can hold her own in a firefight. She prefers to create one sided exchanges, avoiding damage then picking off unsuspecting targets up close. is the gameplay expression; the lore asks what someone with that temperament would risk for a single supernatural bargain.
The Patron bargain makes this motive important: a wish is not simply a reward, but a test of what Haze values and what price they may accept when an elder power controls the terms.
